Techniques

Olivia expertly employs a variety of traditional goldsmithing and crafting techniques to create her exquisite fine jewellery. Find out more about these techniques below.

Design

Olivia transforms ideas to reality through her meticulous designs. Using her artistic talent, technical drawing skills and her practical knowledge of jewellery, Olivia is able to translate initial concepts to paper, the first step on the journey from idea to finished piece of jewellery.

Traditional Goldsmithing

Olivia utilises traditional goldsmithing techniques to handcraft her jewellery from start to finish. She expertly applies techniques such as filing, forging, piercing, sculpting, texturing and soldering to make beautiful pieces of wearable art from her designs.

Stonesetting

Olivia uses various stonesetting techniques to set precious and semi-precious gemstones into select jewellery pieces to enhance their opulence. Bezel, claw and flush settings are a few of the ways Olivia sets gemstones into her jewellery.

Hand Engraving

Olivia often applies intricate details to her jewellery pieces through the use of traditional hand engraving techniques. These allow Olivia to create lifelike details, tactile textures and shimmering reflections. Olivia is currently furthering her skills in the art of traditional hand engraving through her Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) Scholarship with master hand engraver Malcolm Appleby MBE.

Die Stamping

Die stamping is the process of engraving a negative relief pattern or design into a piece of steel. This is then stamped into a softer metal, such as silver or gold, to get the opposite impression. A few of Olivia’s collections utilise this method, the Daisy range is made from one of Olivia’s very first dies.

Polishing and Finishing

Every piece of Olivia’s jewellery is meticulously hand finished to achieve the highest quality finish and guarantee a luxurious and professional final product.
